Young volunteers leading by example!

3:39 PM, Thursday, 09 February 12. FA Football Futures

16 young aspiring referees, coaches and volunteers attended the new FA Junior Football Leaders course.

The new course aims to provide a basic introduction for young people to develop the leadership skills required when involved in football.

The course which covers an introduction to refereeing and coaching allows the young candidates to gain experience and knowledge through practical and theory workshops as well as group tasks.

The majority of the students completing the course were from FA Charter Standard Community Club, Faversham Strike Force with Under 15’s player Thomas Scamp saying ”I really enjoyed the course and learnt about how much goes into planning a coaching session and running a football event”.

The young leaders who have all signed up to the FA Football Futures Programme will now complete 4 hours volunteering at the Club in order to complete the award.

Kent County FA Football Development Officer, Richard McHugh went on to say “As a County FA we are committed to the continued personal development of the next generation of young volunteers and it was pleasing to see the young leaders with so much passion and willingness to play a part in the development of grassroots football”.

The Kent FA Football Futures programme is intended to support young people interested in volunteering in football by rewarding them for their volunteering and providing opportunities for them to receive training, gain experience and meet other young volunteers in the game.
